A queer action plan for Bavaria now!

Bavaria-wide joint Pride motto for the state election in autumn

Bavaria is the only federal state without a program for equality and acceptance of LGBTIQ*. This must finally come to an end! This fall, the Bavarian state elections will take place on October 8th. For this reason, 20 Bavarian Prides have so far joined forces in Amberg, Bamberg, Bayreuth, Coburg, Eichstätt, Erlangen, Haßfurt (Haßberge), Ingolstadt, Kaufbeuren (Allgäu), Kelheim, Landshut, Munich, Nuremberg, Passau, Regensburg, Schwabach, Schwandorf, Straubing and Weiden (as of March 6, 2023), among others, and want to exert pressure on politics with the demand for a queer action plan together with other LGBTIQ* organizations.

The actions will start on May 17 for IDAHOBIT and will continue through the Pride Season in Bavaria until the state elections. Detailed information will follow.

Questions and answers about the Queer Action Plan

What actually is an action plan?

An action plan is a tool of a government, whether local, state or federal. Specific goals are formulated for a particular topic and their implementation is planned. For example, the federal government launched the action plan Queer living in early January.
A queer action plan for Bavaria means that our state government, with the involvement of Bavarian LGBTIQ* organizations, develops and implements concrete measures for equality and acceptance of queer people

Why is the queer action plan the Bavaria-wide motto this year and which Prides are involved?

Bavaria is the only federal state without a queer action plan! This must finally come to an end, especially since the figures of "Strong - LGBTIQ*-Fachstelle gegen Diskriminierung und Gewalt" (Expert office against discrimination and violence) prove it: Homo- and transphobia in Bavaria ARE a problem. The upcoming Bavarian state elections this year are the perfect opportunity to draw the attention of a broad public to this deplorable state of affairs and to exert pressure on politicians. Together we are stronger, therefore 20 Bavarian Prides united under this political demand and plan common actions. Thereby are so far among others: Amberg, Bamberg, Bayreuth, Coburg, Eichstätt, Erlangen, Haßfurt (Haßberge), Ingolstadt, Kaufbeuren (Allgäu), Kelheim, Landshut, Munich, Nuremberg, Passau, Regensburg, Schwabach, Schwandorf, Straubing and Weiden (Status: March 6, 2023).

What are concrete examples of goals for a Bavarian queer action plan?

We want hate crimes against queer people in Bavaria to finally be recorded in the police statistics, queer diversity to be included in the curricula, the incomplete counseling situation in the Bavarian area to be remedied, special accommodations for LGBTIQ* refugees to be created etc. A state commissioner should develop and implement all these measures with the involvement of queer organizations.

What will happen after the motto announcement, what actions are you planning?

Until the start of the Bavarian campaign for IDAHOBIT on May 17, we are looking for more alliance partners and supporters. We are creating an online platform so that everyone can contribute with their demands for a queer Bavarian action plan. We are planning accompanying events and actions as well as a petition. You will find more detailed information here in the future.

Where can I sign the petition for a queer action plan Bavaria?

→ You can always sign the petition online: Petition queer action plan
→ Starting with the IDAHOBiT on May 17, signature lists will be available in many queer locations and at Pride events throughout Bavaria.
→ The signature list will also be available as a PDF document for download and self-printing for all those who want to actively collect signatures in their environment.
Our goal: at least 50,000 signatures! We will then hand over the lists to the politicians in a joint operation of the Bavarian Prides and other queer organizations in September, shortly before the end of the state parliament election campaign.
