We are Be'er Sheva Munich Queer

SHALOM שָׁלוֹם

Two sister cities, two queer communities

Be’er Sheva Munich Queer is a group of dedicated people here in Munich, who set out to make a difference as part of a new partnership between two sister cities. Be'er Sheva is Munich youngest sister city since 2021. Our goal is to create, build and foster a friendship and cultural exchange between the LGBTIQ communities of Be’er Sheva (Israel) and of Munich (Germany). We are happy and proud to have a great role model for our project – Munich Kyiv Queer. This group has been doing a wonderful job bringing queer communities from Kyiv and Munich together. It created a very successful partnership which took on a new meaning and importance after the beginning of the war in Ukraine.

Building queer friendships, fighting antisemitism

Since its humble beginnings in July 2022, our group has been growing ever since. We are a truely diverse bunch of queers, allies, jews and gentile who get together for montly meetings. We talk, discuss and work on ideas and plans to move things forward. In the past couple of years we held zoom meetings and online talks with from folks from the Pride House in Be'er Sheva. Undoubtedly, these are unsettling and dark times. The current political state of things and armed conflict after Hamas' horrible massacre of jewish people on October 7th 2023 presents us and of course our friends in Be'er Sheva with a challenging and sad reality. Antisemitism, often dressed as criticism of the state of Israel, has exploded worldwide and also here in Munich. A city which has a significant place in this country's dark history as declared capital of the Nazi movement 1933 – 1945.

Our clear and determined goal is solidarity with the people of Israel, especially with its queer community – education, conversation, ideas, exchange of queer experiences and exchange of thoughts about art, music, pop culture, history, politics, life and even religion. In short: building and living an international queer friendship.

Munich Pride 2025

BSMQ: "Thank you to everyone who came out to support our group in the pride parade 2025 – you were many, your were wonderful. We appreciate this very, very much and love you all. Together we weathered all the threatening chants and signs along the route and showed our city and the world that we are stronger than hate."
